Universal control system
for real time processes

Control system design, based on functional modules in double Eurocards format, in 19" rack casing, is dedicated to control power electronics devices, but due to the universal configuration of functional modules it is widely used in all industrial applications.

Design tasks

Design of control concept
Design of functional modules schematics/PCB
Developing software for FPGA devices
Developing software for DSP devices
Device commissioning and testing
Design of control concept

- Two parallel buses of 100MB/s each

- Communication implemented using M-LVDS technology

- Additional CAN communication channels

- Synchronization lines

- System power distribution

Design of functional modules schematics/PCB

The system has space for 12 functional modules, which include, among others:

- CPU module (Cyclone3 + 2xC6713)

- Measuring module (30 measurements from LEMs)

- Interface module with voltage converter unit

- I/O interface module

- Communication module

Most of tasks are implemented in Cyclone FPGA from Altera/Intel. Main algorithm is implemented in two C6000 DSP from TI.

- Thousands of lines in Verilog

- Thousands of lines in System Verilog

- Dozens of Signal Tap II Logic Analyzer Files

- Dozens of Schematic Files

Developing software for FPGA devices
Developing software for DSP devices

- Over 16 thousand lines of code in C

- Application uses two DSPs

- Interrupt period of the embedded real time system 62,5us

Device commissioning and testing

The system was first used in 15 experimental stations in the Laboratory of Innovative Power Technology and Integration of Renewable Energy Sources LINTE^2, Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering of Gdansk University of Technology
